Tips to Transition Summer to Fall Fashion

Summer to fall fashion already? Although it is still hot and super sunny in California, fall fell right into place. If you are a busy bee, it is very helpful to find a way to transition your summer wardrobe to fall fashion.

“TRANSITIONING FROM SUMMER TO FALL FASHION”

Keep Your Maxi Dresses and Summer Skirts

Before you stow away your maxi dresses and summer skirts, you can still use them for summer to fall fashion. Simply add a belt and long sleeves (such as a sweater, cardigan, or jacket). I like to wear sweaters over my skirts and dresses.

Add Tights

Adding tights to your dresses or even shorts is a way of soft transition. If the weather is still hot where you live, pick out thin tights or lacy ones.

Layer Up

This is pretty self-explanatory but layer up! Add a sweater, jacket, leggings, cardigan, scarf, etc. to add to your fall look. I usually like to add flannels to my tanks or even rompers. Fedora hats are also one of my favorite accessories to add.

Invest in a Statement Making Jacket

Jackets are a must for fall, especially for summer to fall fashion. From military style to blazers, jackets and other toppers are one of my favorite pieces to add. Depending on how you style an outfit, jackets are usually the main focus of an outfit. So do not be afraid to wear something bold. You can pair a jacket with one of your lighter summer tops.

Add Deeper Colors

One of my favorite things about fall fashion is the rich and deep colors that are usually used. Deep colors can add a mysterious vibe to your look, so it’s always fun to play with harmonizing different deep colors. If you are not sure on what colors match, it is always safe to be monochromatic. Monochrome is always sleek and chic.

Buy Boots

Boots are a must for fall. They are a staple and easily make your summer outfits ready for fall. I usually like to wear boots with my floral skirts for an easy season transition. Boots are perfect since you can just add them to almost anything.

In this photo shoot, I opened up my closet and chose random pieces. This shoot took place in Old Town Pasadena. It’s always fun to mix things up. :]

Back to School

Back to School – New Classes, New Friends, New Clothes, NEW YOU

Going back to school is always extremely exciting, since it’s like a restart button on a video game of school life. Back to school in high school is fun because there’s new and familiar faces. In that case, it is fun to see people changing their styles around you, looking at first impressions, and new clothes. I loved dressing up, customizing my clothes, but comfort was always (and still is) very important to me. I feel that fashion is a creative outlet of expressing one’s self. So of course, back to school style was super important, especially that first impression of a new you.

New Clothes, NEW YOU

First Day Ensemble

When I was in high school, I was pretty nerdy. I loved anime (still do) but I loved music and fashion. I was on the volleyball team, chess club, math club, business club, karate club, and president of the knitting club (lol).

Work Around Your Dress Code

I remember always being limited and restricted by dress codes up to high school. I never really wanted to show skin, but I wanted to wear tanks, hats, open toed shoes, spikey accessories, destroyed-looking clothes. I noticed that being the well behaved student that I was, I kind of got away with minimal ripped clothes (lol). Also, you can always hide what you are wearing with a cardigan, jacket, or cover up.

New School Year, New Clothes, New You

Get Away from Dress Codes

I think going back to school as a college student is more fun, since you have absolute freedom in fashion. Also, each time you go back to school, you get to meet new people. I know sometimes college can be a little intimidating and you feel a strange competition in the air, but it might just be your imagination. One tip I always given to students in college is that try to be open-minded, respectful, and friendly. Once you can do that, you would be surprised by how many people would open to you. During my first two years of college, I did not care to make friends because I was so focused on studying. I realized later that it was the time to make friends and that college is about balancing yourself. Balancing homework, work, free-time, discipline, and hang outs is what you learn to do in college.

New Classes, New clothes, NEW YOU

More Fashion Freedom in College

In this look, I’m wearing a tank that was given to me, a button up to cover up, denim shorts, a cap, Nike sneakers, and Marc Jacobs backpack. I like being sporty at school because it is super comfortable. I would not want to wear something troublesome or uncomfortable from 8am-6pm.

This shoot was super fun because I got to work with a mutual friend. Matt Sy is a photography student and I was very impressed by his skills (especially since he is so young!). It’s nice to work with people who are closer to my age because we can act like kids together. 😀 Follow him on IG: @M4TTSYKE

Tips for Underwater Photography

Beginner Underwater Photoshoot

This photo shoot was one of my favorite photo shoots of all time. I had the honor of shooting beautiful hand-made jewelry and flower head-pieces by Cosmik Souls. The most exciting part of it was that it was underwater and I am clearly a beginner.

Reuben Reynoso who specializes in underwater photography,  had contacted me on Instagram and asked if I would be interested. I looked over his portfolio and was amazed by his beautiful work so of course, I was ecstatic to work with him.

On the day of the shoot, I was pretty nervous since it was my first time shooting underwater. Everyone on the team was very comforting and supportive. Instructions were clear, but still scary.

Underwater Photography Techniques for Beginners

Research & Plan

It is best if you look over poses before going under water. Since the environment is completely different, it is harder to concentrate on your look. I researched many graceful underwater shoots to analyze the model’s body and especially their expression. Since it is uncomfortable to be holding your breath, it is important to keep a calm face for the camera.

Rehearse

I was actually not able to rehearse very much since the flower head piece was hand-made and not suitable for underwater. If possible, rehearsing would be ideal in order to get used to the temperature, environment, and photographer.

Communication

Communication was simple for this shoot, since it was shot in a pool. We used hand signals before going down since breathing is crucial before going under. Make sure to understand your photographer’s signals and clarify anything before shooting. Never be afraid to ask questions or even repeat a question.

On Sinking & Floating

The most important things before going under:

  1. Take 3 deep breaths
  2. Exhale all the air out
  3. Then dive!

The 3 deep breaths allow oxygen into my blood stream and exhaling allows me to sink under water. If you want to float slightly, on the last breath out, exhale about half of your air before going down.

Staying Still/Moving for Shots Will Be Tricky

I had to remember to keep my toes pointed, arch my back, let my white choker/scarf flow and on top of that, I am not able to breathe (lol). Also, underwater photography environment tricky, so analyze where the lighting hits so you can point your face towards the lighting to have a good shot.

I did a few shots with the flower headpiece then after, we shot without it. It was definitely a lot easier without the flower piece. The flower piece kept floating up, so it was difficult to have it in place. Underwater, I felt kind of graceful. When I was down under, I pretended I was an underwater fairy or a mermaid. Maybe one day I can switch places with Ariel, from “The Little Mermaid” (lol).

Have Extra Hands

If possible, the photoshoot is much easier with extra hands. Other than the photographer and myself, there was a photographer assistant, makeup artist, and my manager. The makeup artist was very helpful in adjusting the flower headpiece and touching up make up. An assistant is definitely crucial if your underwater shoot is deeper than a regular pool (for the model’s safety).

Shoot Fast or Get Cold

If you are not shooting in the tropical, the human body can become cold when submerged underwater for a long period of time. Although the photoshoot took place in sunny California and in the middle of July, I became cold after 30 minutes. The shoot becomes unpleasant once you become cold so be quick!

Personal Experience

I have been doing photo shoots since I was 18 years old. I did not like calling myself a “model” before because I was always afraid my peers would judge me; I was afraid people would view me as conceited or “full of it”. So, for years, I hid the fact that I modeled. I also lied to my friends every once in a while because whenever I had something exciting coming into place for myself, people would want to spend time with me because of what I did and not for who I was. Even my best friend at the time judged what I did. She made side remarks like back-handed compliments. I realized now, people who truly care about you would not do that. I should be proud about what I do, because it is a part of me.

“Gleaming scales on a fish…”

Underwater photoshoots are just my new thing. Photoshoots are always enjoyable, but it is extremely gratifying to find something new, interesting, and fun. I can assure you, every single underwater photoshoot is challenging. I recently did another shoot with Reuben Reynoso (IG: @ReynosoPhotography) for Black Milk Clothing.

The dress I wore is called the Mermaid Skater Dress and it was so beautifully shiny. The design was definitely inspired by the gleaming scales on a fish. Underwater, the “scales” of the dress would glisten through the ripples of sunlight which gave a beautiful glow. The dress was a perfect fit and surprisingly, extremely comfortable.

You can find the dress here: https://blackmilkclothing.com/products/mermaid-straps-skater-dress

“Danger of lacking too much oxygen…”

I’m not too sure why, but I felt extremely tired and exhausted after this shoot. I was thinking that I probably pushed myself farther than my first underwater shoot because I was excited and knew what to do. My manager was saying I was staying underwater longer than the first time I shot with Reuben. I always had a bad habit of pushing myself with everything I do. Maybe this time around, it was a bad idea since there is a danger of lacking too much oxygen. I just need to remember to be more careful! From pushing too much, I ended up swallowing some water and thus, ingested some chlorine. I felt very sick and nauseated after the shoot and had to call off work at my other job. Also, on the way home, my vision was cloudy (probably from having my eyes open under chlorine water for over 3 hours). But no worries, the next day my vision was completely fine!

Ion Swimmer’s Shampoo is a MUST!

“Protect bleached hair from turning green!”

“100% Vegan Protectant”

One more thing I must say. If you are blonde or have color treated hair (especially bleached), it is crucial to use a protectant for your hair. If I jumped in a pool of chlorine water, my blonde hair would turn green (yes, it has happened before!). Before I do underwater photoshoots, I wash my hair in Ion Swimmer’s Shampoo and Conditioner (you can find it at Sally’s Beauty Supply or Amazon.com). I love this line because it protects my bleached hair from sun and chlorine damage, turning green, and as a plus, it is 100% vegan! So after washing my hair and using Ion Swimmer’s Shampoo and Conditioner, I clip it up without drying it, get my make-up done, and jump in the pool with Reuben to create awesome photos. 😀

My First Style Session with Emily Tangerine

My First Style Session – Tangerine Tuesday

In my family, I was always known as the visual artist and as I became older, my family always asked me for fashion or clothing advice. On Tuesday, Rose, Emily Tangerine, and I took Emily to Beverly Center’s H&M to give her a wardrobe make over so we called that day, “Tangerine Tuesday”. This day gave me the opportunity to have my first style session. Emily has a very sweet style. Emily’s general wardrobe is quite conservative, but her personality is kind of the opposite (lol). She is goofy (in an adorable way), playful, and not afraid to say what is on her mind. So, I decided to go with a louder look for her.

So, I decided to go with a louder look for her.

This first look is Emily’s “Street Look”

She is wearing high-waisted jean shorts with a crop top that says “Game On”. The cap she is wearing has printed cassettes with “Beat Junkie” printed on the front. Her denim hoodie with cotton material sleeves has a lighter tone to it. It is important to be careful when pairing a denim jacket with jean shorts because there can be too much blue.

So, I decided to go with a louder look for her.

The second look is Emily’s “Rocker Look”

She is wearing a sleeveless dress with fringes, a leather jacket, and a statement necklace to complete the look. I love the fringes on the bottom of the dress because it gives more attention on the legs and gives an illusion of more height. Since the fringes take a lot of attention, I thought it was best to finish the look by tying up Emily’s hair. That way, there is a balance with the fringes.

After: Punk Rock Look

The last look was Emily’s favorite. She called it the “Rocker Princess Look”. Emily is wearing a gold sequenced dress with two slits in the front. She said she loved the slits because it flows nicely when she walks. The leather jacket adds a little boldness to the princess look which matches her girly yet spunky personality.

Palm Tree Obsession – Edgy A-Line Print

Edgy A-Line Print Dress ... classic with a summer twist ... Sangria Sunday ... feminine and know how to have fun ... Disney Land, California Adventure ...

Test There are many summer obsessions this year and palm prints are definitely one of them. I love this dress cut because it is very classic but with a summer twist. The best characteristic this dress gives is classy but cool. The palm print dress takes a classic cut dress into an outfit that says, “I’m feminine and know how to have fun”. Petticoats are not required for this dress since the thick material adds enough natural shape.

I wore this on a brunch date with my sister in Newport Beach and it was perfect with the sunny weather and Sangria Sunday (which is my favorite drink!). I had the amazing feeling of summer perfection with my palm tree prints, warm breeze, and refreshing drinks made with real fruit.

Although I had a perfect Sunday, this week will be one of my busiest weeks ever. My friend from Japan, Yoshi, is visiting me this week on short notice. I met her during college in the international extension center and we both got along right away. She taught me how to cook her favorite Japanese dishes and she was always there for me when I was down during those days. For that reason, I spent so much time prepping her guest room and guest bathroom (because I love her so much and want everything perfect for her).

I also have work, company meeting/dinner, and much prepping to do for the Anime Expo this week! I am ecstatic to announce that I will be co-hosting for LA18 at the Anime Expo. Aside from the stress of short prep time I have this week, I am super ecstatic about it for everything.

Yoshi works for Disney so hopefully I will have the time to join her in visiting the happiest place on earth, Disney Land and California Adventure. So in order for me to go, I need to prepare everything in advance and hopefully be able to go to Disney Land and eat Mickey Mouse shaped ice cream.

Anyone going to the Anime Expo? Let me know down below in the comment box!  Oh, by the way… I’m cosplaying… Can you guess what??? :p

Midnight Blue Jumpsuit for any Season

I have been really into one-piece outfits lately, especially jumpsuits and rompers. This simple midnight blue jumpsuit I am wearing is a great effortless look. I love how there are pockets on the side and a drawstring so it can show a summer-ready figure. This jumpsuit is also great to have since it can transition to autumn very easily. In other words, it is season-less.

Wearing simple clothing is fun because you can add something heavy or complicated like the linked chain necklace shown in my photos. This necklace is absolutely one of my favorite necklaces (you can probably catch me wearing them in a few other photos/videos such as my Twitter: @ogYukiBomb and Instagram: @YukiBomb).

I wore this outfit on my recent trip to Las Vegas with my family and I surprisingly had a lot of compliments from random women. It’s a safe and sophisticated look. I like putting my hands in my pocket while I’m walking in this piece because it makes me feel resilient yet feminine. I think this look is best with my hair up so that it draws more attention on the necklace and neck. Simplicity is sometimes best, is it not? :]

Passion, Projects, Pandora…

I’m excited to say that I have many projects lining up for me. Unfortunately I cannot say exactly what yet, but what I can tell you is that I will be collaborating with KC Nekro. KC and I recently had a conversation about music and I introduced him to one of my favorite artists that I recently heard on Pandora. My current repeat list is Alina Baraz and Galimatias’ Ep, “Urban Flora”. I feel like this amazing EP embodies a great part of my soul and personality. The music, rhythm, and lyrics are just incredibly amazing. One day later, KC texted me and said, “I CAN’T STOP LISTENING TO ALINA BARAZ!!!” (lol) So, we were then inspired and will be working together to deliver a part of our passion in the form of music.

Let me know below what you guys think about this post. :] I’m curious to know…

Lace... Look Sexy NOT Slutty ... California Girl ... Yuki Ito ... Evolution of Fashion │ Make a Statement ... Signs Your Photographer is a GREAT Fit ...

How to Look Sexy NOT Slutty

This sheer lace jumpsuit screams out sexy, but how sexy can you be without being raunchy? I have always preferred clothing that has sexiness with taste and not looking unrefined. Yes, this outfit is definitely bold, but it is all about how you rock it.

California Girl

The sheerness of this look makes it no problem to wear during the hot summer nights in California. The black fedora and chained statement necklace adds a little spunk to the look. Under the sheer lace, I am wearing high waist spandex and a basic black bra. In my opinion, the black high waist shorts are a must; I tried wearing lower waist shorts and I thought there was too much skin exposed.

As for shoes, I thought heels would add a final touch of something provocative. Booties would be a great substitute for the look because it would balance by adding a touch of virility.

Evolution of Fashion │ Make a Statement

I have to admit, although I had many compliments on this look, it took a bit of time to get used to wearing this in public. This jumpsuit reminds me of seductive lingerie and that can make a girl blush. I grew up quite reserved so I feel that I have evolved out of my shell more by wearing this.

I felt shy at first, but then courageous and sexy. The material is noticeably thin, so at first I was concerned about ripping it. Then I realized, maybe a lacerated look would be fun… Or the process of doing so would be more fun… (jk).

Signs Your Photographer is a GREAT Fit

This shoot obviously took place in public. As I was shooting, there were a few onlookers that made me feel very uncomfortable (lol). I usually find locations that have very little traffic as possible, but since Sebastian (the photographer, his website is cbfour.co) and I were on a time crunch, we randomly chose this little spot in North Hollywood.

Also, the weather was a bit cloudy and breezy, so we had to chase tiny spots of sunlight and wait for some wind to hit. Oh, the troubles of limited time and photo shoots… But Sebastian and I learned to work with what was available and thus, were very satisfied with the result of the photos. Sebastian is one of my favorite photographers since we seem to connect through artistic values.

I grew up learning a bit about zodiacs so whenever I work with people for some time, I have an odd habit of asking for their zodiac. So on this day, I asked Sebastian about his zodiac and found out that our zodiacs match fairly well. I believe that it is very important to have a good and true connection with people, especially with the ones you work with to create something.

No wonder I love his work. He’s talented and we get along. :]

I immediately fell in love with this see-through white polyester blouse when I laid eyes on it. This blouse is sexy because it allows you to reveal your curves but the design and cut makes it cute. This oversized look has the best of both worlds since it is see-through. I love that only the bust area is covered because when you look, it is a tease which adds sexiness without overdoing it.

Play Ball!

Although it is a blouse, it has a sporty feel to it since the design reminds me of a referee coach. The high-waist black spandex gives a good balance from the oversized shirt by accentuating the hips. I personally prefer to cover up my belly button because in a way, it is another type of tease. High-waist shorts or pants also distract the eyes from the belly area to the upper torso and it accentuates my hips. I love this pair of spandex because the cotton material makes it comfortable and it reminds me of my glory years of playing volleyball (lol).

Below the Belt

This outfit can be dressed up by heels or down with sneakers. I’ve worn both with this outfit. One thing about this blouse is that it only covers the bust area which means the wearer needs to be careful not to raise their arms too high. If arms are raised too high while wearing this blouse, it can reveal you covered area. So when wearing blouses like these, make sure you wear a bandeau under.

Chasing my shadow…

Let’s Get Ready to RUMBLE!

The photo above is my favorite photo from this shoot. Sebastian (Studio Owner and Photographer, CBfour) and I were talking about future photoshoot projects and how we can be experimental.

Tease the Referee

As we were shooting this, my shadows were very evident among the large grey wall. I suddenly had the idea of playing around with my shadows and viola, this photo happened. It was not easy achieving this photo, since the shadow is only created by the quick second the flash of the lamps go off. So in a way, I was chasing my shadow. What a tease…

Pre-Loved Fashion Finds for Less

In the middle of busy Korea Town in Los Angeles, there lies a charming and humble consignment shop called “Orange LA Boutique”. This boutique carries vintage to recent authentic luxury brands. The owner, Miss Stephanie, chooses every item very carefully for her delightful shop. Her sales associates are also extremely helpful and very kind.

These extravagant fashion finds gets me every time I shop here. I am always astounded by how inexpensive all of the items are. It’s definitely much more inexpensive than buying previously loved items online. The previously loved items include brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, Manolo Blahnik, Marc Jacobs, Tori Burch, Jimmy Choo’s, Hermes, and so much more. All items in the store are lightly used to like-new which are in great condition. I am also always impressed by the selection which this store provides. I went shopping here last Saturday and oh my goodness, I wanted everything…

There were a few items that caught my attention on Saturday. At first, I immediately thought the gold chain would be very much like Katt, but I also favor it myself. It has an urban feel to it while displaying the Chanel brand which reminds the wearer of the classiness Chanel delivers. Next to the golden chain is a pair of Chanel heels. These heels also have edginess to it compared to classic Chanel. I love how there are studs on the sides and the metal brackets connected to the heel. Very unique compared to other bulky black heels that are currently commonly worn. These heels also remind me of the 90’s bulky black heel trend.

Miss Stephanie was kind enough to let me do a live stream of my time shopping using Periscope (@Yuki_Ito5). I had such a great time since I was able to ask an audience of their opinion towards whatever item I chose. As I was shopping around, I saw a few items that reminded me of my bandmates, Kiki Wongo and Katt Lee of Nylon Pink. I absolutely must have a shopping day with them here sometime soon!
